Project Summary

On a commercial construction project in Jefferson, Georgia, DataTel 360 installed an underground conduit pathway to support future fiber connectivity between an existing building and a newly constructed training center. The photograph above captures the work in progress: a long open trench cut through red Georgia clay, with two-inch conduit run along the trench bottom, a compact excavator staged on the graded site, and utility poles following the tree line beyond.

Outside plant work like this is fundamentally about planning for what comes next. Rather than pulling fiber immediately, this phase of the project establishes the protected underground route that fiber will later travel through. When the training center is ready to be brought onto the network, the pathway is already in the ground, already protected, and already routed between the two buildings — no new excavation required across a finished campus.

Timing is what makes this approach work. Placing conduit while the site is still under construction — while the ground is open, the grading is unfinished, and heavy equipment is already mobilized — is dramatically less disruptive and less expensive than trenching later through completed landscaping, sidewalks, paving, or parking areas. Connect a new building to an existing one

A commercial property adding a new training center needed a dependable way to link that building back to the existing facility. The work had to be coordinated with other trades and sequenced into an active construction schedule, while protecting the routing so the pathway remains accessible and serviceable long after the site is finished.

In many commercial applications conduit is preferred over direct burial because it shields the route from the surrounding environment and keeps future fiber installation straightforward — cable can be pulled, added, or replaced later without re-excavating.

Scissor lift and boom lift projects are a specialty of DataTel 360. Warehouses, distribution centers, and industrial buildings put the work overhead — open ceilings, exposed structure, high bays, and long cable runs that can't be reached from a ladder. Why is conduit often preferred over direct burial for commercial fiber?
In many commercial applications a conduit pathway protects the communications route, keeps future fiber installation and long-term serviceability straightforward, and allows cable to be added or replaced later without re-excavating. The right approach depends on the site and its engineering considerations, so each project is designed individually.
